Casting Call for a new documentary film in partnership with Vue Cinemas and King’s College London
Beyond Mother Love is the story of one family's quest to find friendships between people with and without cognitive disabilities.
We are looking to find friendships that include at least one person who has a cognitive altering condition such as learning disability, brain injury, Autism or dementia.
Are you or someone you know part of a cognitively diverse friendship like this? If so we’d love to meet you.

When their non-verbal son was diagnosed with complex cognitive disabilities, artists Jen and David Logan held one fear for him more than any other: would their son ever be able to experience real friendship? Or, would he be forever limited to the love of his family and the support of paid carers? As someone who cannot communicate or socialise the way most people do, would anyone besides them ever be willing or able to enjoy him and be his friend?
In partnership with Vue Cinemas and King’s College London we are looking for people to feature in the documentary.
Specifically we are looking for:
Groups of two or more friends where one person in the friendship has a significant learning disability, cognitive impairment or dementia
Groups may be any age from five years upward. This might include a group of school friends (one of whom has Down’s Syndrome), a group of housemates (one of whom has Autism) or a group of friends living in a retirement community (one of whom has advanced dementia)
Groups may be from any background and we can provide an interpreter if needed
Selected participants in the documentary would be filmed in their daily life together and be invited to talk about the highs and lows of being friends together.
If you, or someone you know would be great for our film, please fill in the contact form below.
[Disclaimer: due to the limited time within the film, we will only be able to feature a small number of friendship groups.]
